About one month ago the agency finished replacing its oldest ticket machines — referred to as type 3s — with new, type 6 machines. Now 117 – or more than 50% – of the 213 ticket machines along the MAX and WES systems are new.

A long-time customer, Muni is partially funding the project with federal stimulus money. Installation of the new fare collection equipment is planned to start in late 2010 and will be fully operational by the spring of 2011.
