The MTA’s Purple Line is a 16-mile, 21-station light rail line in the northern Washington D.C. suburbs. A circumferential rail transit line linking an existing radial system, the Purple Line will connect key activity centers, four branches of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority system, and Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor.

On May 23, 2015, Houston METRO joined the list of cities with top-notch transit systems with the opening of the Purple Line. Concurrent with the Purple Line, Houston METRO also opened the 3.3-mile Green Line. Combined with the Red Line extension that opened in December 2013, the three new lines will triple Houston's light-rail’s footprint.
