Construction of the rail line, which parallels the highly congested I-4 corridor in Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties, has put about 800 people to work and spurred a $250 million investment in a 176-acre Health Village at Florida Hospital.
SunRail Commuter Rail
The Florida Department of Transportation ordered 14 BiLevel railcars. The contract is valued at approximately $41 million. Deliveries are planned between May and August 2013.
SunRail will run along a 61-mile stretch of existing rail freight tracks in Central Florida. The major funding partners for the project are the Florida Department of Transportation, the FTA, Orange, Seminole, Volusia and Osceola counties and the city of Orlando. The first phase, at 31-miles, will serve 12 stations.
