One proposal would consolidate the CTA, Metra and Pace into a unified entity. The other plan would place the transit boards under the direction of the Illinois Department of Transportation, which would essentially give the governor control of the transit system.
Gov. Mark Dayton's task force on transportation is calling for an increase in local sales taxes, gas taxes and vehicle fees. He created the task force last year in response to more demand for new revenue sources to pay for transit and highways.
The strike forces, which were set to be at popular tourist destinations and ports of entry, are part of FMCSA's year-round, nationwide enforcement activities to strengthen commercial bus and driver safety.
