When an 80-year-old parishoner with a memory impairment went missing after church services, Toledo Area Regional Paratransit Service driver Maureen Wilcheck put out a radio call to other drivers and within minutes, driver Lori Brooks spotted the man.
The incidents happened within six weeks of each other after the end of the woman’s trip on the Toledo Area Regional Paratransit Service. Although the passenger was brought home safely both times, one incident resulted in an investigation.
Several senior communities and centers in the Sylvania, Ohio area rely on TARPS’ services.
The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will use the “State of Good Repair” grant to replace 38 of its paratransit vehicles. The agency’s paratransit program has been the fastest growing part of the system, with ridership increases in each of the past 15 years.
