The announcement brings the total amount of RAISE grants to more than $7.2 billion for over 550 projects across the country.
The application process for three discretionary programs has been streamlined into the single Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant Program opportunity.
The competitive grant program, established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, provides $500 million over five years for state, local, and Tribal governments to leverage advances in technology to create safer, more efficient, and more innovative transportation systems.
The funding is aimed at reconnecting communities cut off by transportation infrastructure decades ago, leaving entire neighborhoods without direct access to opportunity, like schools, jobs, medical offices, and places of worship.
Expert Services Grants enable recipients to hire expert professionals to develop and deliver public-private partnerships in connection with the development of a specific asset.
The new program incentivizes individuals and organizations to think creatively in developing innovative solutions to combat human trafficking in the transportation industry, and to share those innovations with the broader community.
In a letter, APTA President/CEO said “At a minimum, we urge the THUD Appropriations Act, together with advance appropriations of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, to provide $21.1 billion for public transit and $16.7 billion for passenger rail, as passed by the Senate..."
As part of BIL, the Administration made several investments, including upgrading rail service on the Northeast Corridor, reducing Amtrak and commuter rail delays for over 200 million trips annually.
The U.S. Department of Transportation oversees the Reconnecting Communities Program and supports projects that remove or mitigate barriers to community connectivity. Benefits that result include better mobility, economic stimulus, equity, and citizen benefits.
The funding supports a partnership between U.S. DOT and a university or other eligible organizations to conduct research advancing solutions to the Nation’s climate and transportation challenges.
