Virtually every transit agency in America is experiencing a shortage of bus technicians as skilled baby boomers retire in growing numbers.
The company plans on opening the plant in 2020 where they will produce 400 buses per year with about 500 employees.
The $300,000 grant-funded pilot demonstration, awarded by the Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged, is aimed at helping low-income, unemployed residents overcome transportation barriers to employment.
It also identifies good-paying, high-demand transportation jobs and analyzes the patterns in the education and work experience required for entry, including on-the-job training requirements for new entrants to gain full competency.
Finding comes from the latest annual public opinion poll on Denver RTD’s FasTracks program. Survey also found that 56 percent of metro residents have a favorable impression of FasTracks, up seven percent from 2010.
Focusing on transportation and engineering industry companies, the ITS America Career Center will offer its members-and the engineering industry at large - "an easy-to-use and highly targeted resource for online employment connections."
