In approving Metro’s funding request, $202 million was allocated to the East San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor project, a high-capacity bus rapid transit or light rail project that will connect the Orange Line Van Nuys Station to the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station.
The increased vehicles come in part from a $383,847 state grant that was recently approved.
The agency is among many Illinois public transportation systems facing budget issues because the state is behind on payments to them.
Has received no state money since June, missing payments in July and October and is owed almost $5 million, which constitutes one-third of its annual budget, according to the report.
But not until last summer did DDOT launch the rides program for Detroit residents. Why DDOT didn't set up the program earlier was not immediately clear this week.
The money will serve as a sort of bridge loan to help free up some of the money from longer-term pledges.

May stymy transportation goals for the region if the agency does not receive $1.7 million in a supplemental appropriations bill. Its only other option may be to draw money from local transit providers such as SMART and DDOT.
