Ansaldo STS USA (ASTS) signed a $24 million subcontract to modernize the signal system for the Lexington Avenue and 5th Avenue interlocking in New York City.
ASTS will provide a relay-based wayside signaling system to replace and upgrade two current interlocking on the Queens Boulevard Line. In addition to meeting the latest New York City Transit Authority standards, the state-of-the-art system will be Communications Based Train Control-ready.
The project consists of more than 1,500 vital and non-vital relays, along with additional relay room equipment to control the interlockings. Redundant, non-vital, hot-standby code systems will provide automatic routing capabilities with emergency local control from the Lexington Avenue Relay Room and 5th Avenue Tower Room, as well as a manual pushbutton control within the Queensboro Plaza Master Signal Tower.
