The Denton County (Texas) Transportation Authority (DCTA) selected Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) as part of a joint venture to provide professional support services for its 21-mile A-Train passenger rail project.

The A-Train, which has an estimated cost of $315 million, including purchase of the rail vehicles, and will be funded through a half-cent local sales tax, will carry passengers from Denton to Carrollton, have five stations situated along the corridor and be completed simultaneously with Dallas Area Rapid Transit's completion of its Green Line to Carrollton.

LAN will be responsible for program administration, design constructability reviews, project controls, procurement support, public relations/communications, construction management and systems integration.

The project construction is expected to start in early 2009, with revenue service anticipated to begin in late 2010.
