Amtrak hosts National Train Day events

Amtrak will celebrate its first annual National Train Day during six weeks of events culminating on May 10.  

Events will begin with special promotions, events, partnerships and an advertising campaign. On May 10, Amtrak will host events at four of its largest stations; Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington. Visitors will be able to participate in a variety of activities, including live musical performances, exhibits, trip planning, and giveaways and VIP appearances. 

Television personality Al Roker will serve as spokesman, and will travel from New York to Washington by train for the day’s festivities. The date of National Train Day holds special meaning; it is the anniversary of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point, Utah in 1869. At Promontory Point, the east coast and west coast were connected for the first time by rail.
