New Jersey Transit opened its new STV-designed fully-enclosed service and inspection facility, with separate yardmaster tower, in Morrisville, Pa.  


The facility is located just across the Delaware River and will service Northeast Corridor electric trains, including double-decker trains. The new two-track service and inspection facility is 1200 feet long. Each track in the facility accommodates a 12-car consist with elevated inspection platforms for electric locomotives located on either end of the consist. The facility is equipped with an elevated center platform for car side access, under car pits, locomotive roof top platforms and depressed floors for maintenance accessibility.  


Equipment includes monorail cranes for servicing coach rooftop air conditioning units, mobile-gantry platforms for personnel access to coach rooftops, and locomotive and cab car sanding systems. The facility also includes a wheel truing facility, a mechanical shop, various material storage areas, offices and locker rooms for the mechanical staff.
