New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Bus Co. President Thomas J. Savage announced that the agency’s ridership has grown 11.1 percent since the agency fully assumed operations of routes formerly operated by seven private companies franchised by the City of New York earlier this year.

Savage attributed the increased ridership numbers to five MTA Bus initiatives: improved reliability; improved customer amenities; improved customer information; improved scheduling; and the revision and extension of travel paths on selected routes to serve new markets, improve connections and provide more direct, faster service.
