Richard R. Sarles Sr. was named the new executive director of NJ Transit during a special meeting of the agency’s Board of Directors.
Sarles has been NJ Transit’s assistant executive director for Capital Programs and Planning since 2002. He also has more than 20 years experience in construction, project management and project planning roles with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and served as a vice president for Amtrak from 1996 until 2002.
Sarles will replace George Warrington, who stepped down in March after nearly a five-year tenure.
