Public transit employees returned to work in Denver after a weeklong strike left thousands of commuters without transportation.

About 1,800 members of Amalgamated Transit Union 1001 employed with the Regional Transit District (RTD) walked off the job April 3 when the union rejected agency contract offers.

The RTD and the union overwhelmingly approved a new contract with larger wage increases for workers and a higher agency contribution to health insurance plans.

Transit service was fully restored in time for the Monday morning rush.
