Richard White, general manager of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, was elected chair of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) at the organization’s annual conference in Atlanta last week.
White replaced George Dixon, board of trustees president of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, who will remain on the executive committee as immediate past chair.
Aside from the election of new officers, the show was also highlighted by the approval of APTA's new five-year strategic plan, which sets a goal of increasing ridership and advancing transit funding.
Speakers at the conference included former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Asa Hutchinson and renowned futurist Daniel Burrus.
Next year’s meeting, which also features the APTA EXPO, will be held in Dallas.
