CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Members of the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) board unanimously approved a resolution seeking a 6% increase in the district's property tax levy next year, The News-Gazette reported.
Under the tentative plan, the MTD's property tax request would increase from $7.22 million this year to $7.65 million in 2016. Final board action on the request will come in December, following a public hearing.
The MTD board also approved a grant to purchase four street supervisor minivans and two paratransit vans for Americans with Disabilities Act service. No local funds will be used for the purchase, which amounts to approximately $290,000. The two paratransit vans being replaced are six years old and have more than 165,000 miles.
