Iowa paratransit aims to expand fleet to meet ridership growth

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Daily Iowan reported that SEATS paratransit, Johnson County’s primary bus service for the elderly and disabled, is experiencing a steady increase in ridership. Transit officials are asking the agency’s board of directors for four replacement vehicles and two additional buses to accommodate demand.

The number of SEATS bus trips has steadily increased by 10,000 rides each year for the past five years.

SEATS Director Tom Brase said in a meeting with the board that the old vehicles are causing financial strain because they keep breaking down and needing repairs, according to the newspaper. For the full story, click here.
