PITTSBURGH — Despite making up nearly half of its budget, Port Authority of Allegheny County officials told board members that freezing or cutting salaries would make only a small dent in a looming deficit, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. On Tuesday, the authority's board will discuss service cuts, fare increases and layoffs that could fill a $50.6 million gap in next year's budget caused by rising personnel costs and falling state assistance.
