Assaults on MBTA operators on the rise

BOSTON — An increase in assaults on Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) operators has led transit police to launch a first-in-the-nation policy of collecting DNA samples in assault cases, according to the MBTA’s acting GM Jonathan Davis. Many of the assaults stem from incidents where T officers attempt to catch fare evaders, and typically involve people spitting on employees, reported The Needham Times.
