The new bus is part of the university’s Safe Ride Home program. It will be able to carry 13 riders at a time, more than double the number of riders that the program’s minivans can carry.
Gov. Pat Quinn asked the group to develop ways to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse at the CTA, Metra and Pace, as well as the oversight agency, the Regional Transportation Authority, and to streamline overall system operations.
The agency also launched a new student transit pass program and the pilot for a contactless fare payment system.

The Institute of Transportation Engineers recognized VIA Metropolitan Transit’s VIA Primo service with its Transportation Achievement award. VIA Primo, which began operations in December 2012, is the San Antonio region’s first bus rapid transit line.
