Chicago’s Pace bus drivers honored for safety

Twenty-five bus operators won the National Safety Council’s "Million Mile" award for 2011. The program rewards safe driving for professionals who have gone 12.5 years without a preventable accident. Five of the drivers have reached the two million mile plateau for driving 25 years without a preventable accident.

TriMet honors safe drivers

A Million Miles of Safety is the agency's designation for those employees who have earned 30 or more Safe Driver Awards. A professional driver earns one Safe Driver Award for each year (1,960 hours) without an accident deemed preventable.

NTSB issues safety recs

The FHWA; AASHTO; NHTSA and the GHSA, as well as all 50 states and the District of Columbia, received recommendations for median barrier installation, communication and prohibiting driver cell phone use.

Chicago transit to cut 200 positions, benefits

As the Chicago Transit Authority prepares to release its 2012 budget, it also revised its sick and vacation policies. The personnel cuts will save the agency approximately $22 million annually at a time when the agency is facing a $277 million deficit. The sick and vacation leave policy changes will save the agency an estimated $15 million over the next six years.
