The Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority in New York raised more than $35,000 for community transportation at its first fundraising event. To raise money for its recently established Transportation Foundation, the agency held a golf tournament in September. The funds will go toward providing transportation to community organizations that do not have the funding to move groups, mainly children, to such places as museums and soccer camps. Up to now, transportation was provided on a trade basis with little or no cost to the requesting organization. The Foundation will also support scholarships for transportation-related careers and provide assistance to those obtaining their commercial driver’s license. The Foundation is governed by a board made up of community and business leaders and elected officials.
