StarTran in Lincoln, Neb., is this Thursday offering free rides and instead accepting donations for the disaster relief funds of the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. "Many of our regular riders are low-income citizens who can't afford to make donations, so this provides them with a way to contribute to the relief efforts," said Lincoln Mayor Don Wesely. The adult fare to ride StarTran is $1. StarTran's average income for one day is about $2,800 but Transit Manager Larry Worth said he hopes the amount left in the fareboxes will be greater.
