The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and Georgetown University entered an agreement for one year to test a fuel cell bus. The test was created to address environmental concerns and alleviate the United States' dependence on petroleum fuels. WMATA will operate a fuel cell bus in revenue service provided by Georgetown University. It will operate on various Metrobus routes throughout D.C. The bus will be modified to become compatible with WMATA transit buses and will run on methanol fuel provided by the university. The vehicle will being operation in spring.
