An Israeli man’s life was saved when he gave up his seat on a bus to a 70-year-old woman. She and 15 others were killed minutes later by a suicide bombing in Beersheba near Jerusalem.

Nissim Waknin was on his way home from work when he gave up his seat on the bus for Tamara Davarshvili, who came on the bus loaded with parcels. The seat was right next to a man who is now thought to be one of the two Palestinian bombers.

The bus was engulfed in flames two stops later. Waknin suffered only a minor shrapnel wound in the foot. Davarshvili was not as fortunate.
