The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) voted to award a five-year contract for the operation of the Los Angeles-area commuter rail system — Metrolink — to Connex North America.

The SCRRA board voted unanimously to select Connex and its subcontractor, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

Metrolink, which serves passengers in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, is made up of seven lines, 53 stations and carries approximately 40,000 commuters daily.

The contract was previously held by Amtrak. Connex operations will take effect July 1, 2005.
