Pete Cipolla will step down as general manager of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) effective June 30.

Cipolla, reported the San Jose Mercury News, reached a settlement with the transit agency that will pay him $334,840.

The settlement comes after controversy between Cipolla and board members over a proposed Bay Area Rapid Transit extension.

Cipolla has been the only general manager of VTA in its 10-year history.
