New York City Transit (NYCT) is training an elite team of transit professionals to help emergency officials deal with a biological or chemical terrorist attack in the city’s subway system.

This volunteer HAZMAT team would be in charge of evacuation, providing medical attention and helping authorities navigate subway tracks in an emergency.

So far, 75 supervisors and managers have completed the 40-hour training course.

NYCT officials said that only management level employees are being trained for now, and day-to-day operations will not be affected.
