The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has launched a pilot program that will track its buses in real-time and provide customers with estimated bus arrival times at bus shelter displays and through the Internet. The CTA is testing the Bus Tracker on several buses and has installed a light emitting diode (LED) display at a pilot bus shelter. They have also set up a Website where customers can get real-time information from their computers or personal digital assistants. The Bus Tracker program, which uses global positioning satellite technology to identify bus locations, is expected to ultimately reduce wait times and enhance the overall bus traveling experience.
