My MTA Tracker for Bus uses GPS already installed on MTA buses to predict their arrival time at specific stops and routes. MTA engineers worked for more than one year to develop this technology by creating compatibility between state-of-the-art software and three separate operator logon systems currently utilized in MTA buses.
The goal of the updated process is to ensure that only persons who meet the regulatory criteria are regarded as eligible for paratransit service, making this vital service more efficient. Eligibility is based on limitations to an individual’s abilities, not just the presence of a disability.
The federally funded Regional Household Travel Survey results, which are still being finalized, show that 2.2% rode bikes to work as their usual means of commuting, 1.8% flew in an airplane, and 1.7% took public transit. About 11% of respondents carpooled to work, but the vast majority, 74%, drove alone.

One glitch is that the signs won't provide real-time information on train arrivals until an overhaul of PATCO's 120-car fleet is completed around 2017. The upgrade of the trains will provide the equipment necessary for the trains to communicate with the signs.
With more people riding Bay Area Rapid Transit and Caltrain rail lines and fewer using Bay Area buses, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission is unable to explain why the trend is occurring, however, service cuts and sprawling growth in suburban areas were cited as possible factors.
But not until last summer did DDOT launch the rides program for Detroit residents. Why DDOT didn't set up the program earlier was not immediately clear this week.
