Fla.’s HART launches digital advertising

Will use the existing annunciation system on buses to broadcast 10- to 15-second messages. The program is managed by transit media firm Commuter Advertising, which enables time and location-based commercials triggered by GPS systems. HART is one of 10 transit agencies in the U.S. to use the technology.

SEPTA releases annual sustainability report

Ore. transportation officials seeking comment on HSR

The Oregon Department of Transportation is hosting open houses across the state to present draft proposals and get public input while they study the feasibility of high-speed rail. The final recommendation and environmental impact report is expected to be published in 2015.

Calif. engineers question HSR oversight

Bid requirements state that the independent contractor that would design and build the first phase of the project would hire the inspectors charged with testing the work on that segment. Critics, including a union that represents state engineers and some lawmakers, say that the arrangement could present a conflict of interest.

Amtrak, Calif. partner on HSR

Partnership advances each of their respective HSR programs, and could create efficiencies by ordering trains of similar specifications and develop a U.S. standard for HSR train equipment that can be manufactured and supplied domestically and produced for the rest of the world. An RFP could be issued by September, 2013 with an order placed during 2014.
