The first tramway line in Washington will be 2.2 miles long and have seven stations. It will serve the northeast part of the city and is set to be operational by the end of 2013.

DDOT said the system would cost about $1.2 billion to build and equip with 50 streetcars, and about $65 million a year to operate. Operating and maintaining the Circulator buses would cost about $70 million a year.
