The Design-Build Institute of America awarded the agency’s FasTracks project its 2012 Transportation Owner of the Year Award in the category of transit for its significant contributions in advancing design-build awareness and understanding. About 70% of the FasTracks extension is being implemented through design-build.

The Design-Build Institute of America presented the agency with its "2011 Transportation Owner of the Year Award" for advancing awareness, understanding and use of the design-build project delivery method in the transportation sector, in particular with its the Orange Line and Blue Line light rail projects.
