After a competitive bidding process following an unsolicited proposal by Kiewit Infrastructure Co., the RTD board of directors awarded a contract to Kiewit in July 2012 to complete the full I-225 Rail Line by the end of 2015. The line will open in 2016 after about six months of testing.

Currently 93% complete, the West Rail line is slated for April 26, 2013, eight months ahead of the originally scheduled opening date. It is the first FasTracks project to be completed.

The Design-Build Institute of America awarded the agency’s FasTracks project its 2012 Transportation Owner of the Year Award in the category of transit for its significant contributions in advancing design-build awareness and understanding. About 70% of the FasTracks extension is being implemented through design-build.
