Given that staff believes the proposal has technical merit, the agency plans to accelerate the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the North Metro project.

West Rail Line project named one of the most significant construction projects of 2012 by the Associated General Contractors of America.

After a competitive bidding process following an unsolicited proposal by Kiewit Infrastructure Co., the RTD board of directors awarded a contract to Kiewit in July 2012 to complete the full I-225 Rail Line by the end of 2015. The line will open in 2016 after about six months of testing.

The entry space on its FasTracks commuter-railcar will be increased by a foot to prevent wheelchairs from becoming stuck in the space as cars prepare to leave the station.

Will implement the FasTracks program with existing revenues as part of the Denver Regional Council of Government’s Regional Transportation Plan. Also looking to optimize ways to complete more of FasTracks sooner by re-evaluating elements of the program and all available resources.

The team includes Mass. Electric Construction Co., AECOM and RBC Capital Markets.

This 6.2-mile section of the Northwest Rail Line is funded as part of the Eagle P3 project, which also is building the East Rail Line from Denver Union Station to Denver International Airport.

Currently 93% complete, the West Rail line is slated for April 26, 2013, eight months ahead of the originally scheduled opening date. It is the first FasTracks project to be completed.

The Design-Build Institute of America awarded the agency’s FasTracks project its 2012 Transportation Owner of the Year Award in the category of transit for its significant contributions in advancing design-build awareness and understanding. About 70% of the FasTracks extension is being implemented through design-build.
