Honolulu light rail announces art program

Will highlight work created by artists who have a strong understanding of and affinity for Hawaii’s history and culture. The art will be displayed at the 21 stations along the rail route and at the train control center in Waipahu.

D.C. Metro unveils plan for ‘future’ rail station

Momentum, the model station, will enable Metro to test several design concepts in a single station, with improved lighting, better information and improved customer convenience. Some of the concepts being considered include high-output light fixtures to direct light to the vault ceiling, and a new information wall enclosing fare machines, ATMs, maps and digital screens.

Rail station serving Twin Cities’ commuters opens

The station will serve commuters traveling between Ramsey and Minneapolis, who previously had to take a bus. It is the first planned transit development along Northstar’s 40-mile route between downtown Minneapolis and Big Lake.

Downtown stations added to proposed Miami rail

All Aboard Florida, a company proposing passenger rail service between Miami and Orlando, would build a big new train station in Miami with tracks elevated on a platform four stories up. The company also plans to build similar stations in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

LIRR expands station waiting room hours

The 41 stations will have their waiting room hours extended until 10 PM in the evening on weekdays. LIRR station waiting rooms typically open between 5 AM and 6 AM on weekdays. Prior to the pilot, most station waiting rooms closed by mid-afternoon.

A new high-speed rail alignment beneath Center City would allow trains to avoid speed-killing curves and space limits near the 30th Street Station, helping meet a goal of 37-minute train trips between Philadelphia and New York by 2040.

Ridership has seen some if its sharpest increases during the tenure of Mayor Emanuel. From June 2011-June 2012, ridership rose 4.3%, about 22 million rides, compared to the same time period in 2010-2011.

Rutgers U. transit hub on hold

School officials said the project could not be built without a tax credit from the state. The Urban Transit Hub tax program was designed to spur development near urban train stations and has been on hold because it was nearing its funding cap.
