The Navigator Award was created by WTS International to recognize the achievements of an individual or organization for extraordinary efforts to attract, retain and advance women in the transportation industry.

The funds support construction of a planned 3.3-mile streetcar line to help revitalize Detroit’s historic Woodward Avenue corridor.

He also announced the establishment of the Project Finance Center to help state and local government project sponsors analyze financial options for highway, transit, rail, intermodal and other surface transportation projects facing funding challenges.

The federal funds will be coupled with $15 million in state and local money for a $30 million project.

The new facility will serve local residents, students and visitors to the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village, Dearborn’s largest tourist attraction. It will be designed for the planned Ann Arbor–Detroit commuter rail as well as future high-speed intercity passenger rail service.

Under the new national program, buses and trucks built in 2014 through 2018 will reduce oil consumption by a projected 530 million barrels and greenhouse gas pollution by approximately 270 million metric tons. The standards are expected to yield an estimated $50 billion in net benefits over the life of model year 2014 to 2018 vehicles.

Objectives include increasing awareness of the importance of safety and enforcement among all stakeholders; identifying policy-related barriers and developing opportunities for addressing targeted challenges; and developing tools and resources for educating and training on the maintenance, operations, and purchasing of motorcoach services.

Partnering with Hartford, Conn.-based CTTRANSIT to offer first-of-its-kind certificate in transit management and operations.

Between 2000 and 2009, FMCSA issued a total of 14 imminent hazard orders placing unsafe carriers out of service. In just the last two years, FMCSA has already issued another 14 imminent hazard orders to take carriers that pose an immediate risk to passengers off the road.

This is the largest loan issued through the FRA’s Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing program to date. The locomotives are more energy-efficient and will enable Amtrak to improve frequency, performance and reliability for regional and intercity routes along the Northeast and Keystone Corridors.
