Daimler testifies before Congress for transit funds

Patrick Scully, chief commercial officer for Daimler Buses North America, testified before representatives of the U.S. Congress in July regarding the need to invest in public transportation and improve the environment.

The hearing focused on the reauthorization of SAFETEA-LU.

“We very much appreciate being included in the panel discussions with Congressmen Arcuri and Nadler and their interest in ensuring that public transportation needs are included in the reauthorization effort” said Scully.

Scully’s comments to the Congressmen focused on investing in public transportation to improve energy security and the environment, as well as to secure jobs in North America. He also stressed several key areas that need to be addressed during the reauthorization of SAFETEA-LU, including increasing funding for public transportation within SAFETEA-LU to $123 billion over 6 years; for public transportation to receive at least 20 percent of all surface transportation funding within SAFETEA-LU; and the simplification and streamlining of the grant approval process to allow for faster delivery of funds.
