The U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment of Anne Ferro as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator.

Ferro is currently president of the Maryland Motor Truck Association and serves on several regional advisory committees relating to freight planning, highway safety and transportation funding. Previously, she served as Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administrator between 1997 and 2003, where she established a strong record in highway safety, regulatory compliance and agency leadership.

Ferro also has extensive experience in driver and vehicle safety having led the  agency's efforts to establish a graduated licensing program for new drivers in Maryland as well as a model for older driver research.

“She has an excellent understanding of how government, law enforcement and industry need to work together to solve problems, and will be a great advocate for safety,” said Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) President Buzzy France in a statement supporting the nomination.

“Ms. Ferro has proven that she is committed to working with a wide range of stakeholders including CVSA and understands the important role that states and roadside inspectors play in ensuring highway safety, including our friends to the north and south in Canada and Mexico,” said Stephen Keppler, CVSA’s interim executive director.
