Bombardier Transportation, in consortium with Talgo, received an order from RENFE, the Spanish national rail operator, for the maintenance of a fleet of 30 AVE S/112 very high-speed trains during a period of 14 years. Total value of the contract is approximately $917 million. Bombardier's share in this contract is valued at approximately $405 million.

Maintenance activities will take place at RENFE's depots in Spain and work is predicted to start in 2010, after the conclusion of the train's homologation process. Bombardier's scope includes the preventive and corrective maintenance of the train power-heads, power supply, signaling and propulsion system and auxiliaries.

This fleet of 30 AVE S/112 high speed trains is currently being manufactured by Bombardier in consortium with Talgo. According to the manufacturing contract, Bombardier is responsible for the running dynamics, the entire electrical equipment of the power-head including the proven and reliable MITRAC 3000 propulsion system with traction, auxiliary converter and drive system, and very high-speed bogies.

Bombardier will also carry out the final assembly and testing for its scope of work, while production of the passenger coaches is under Talgo's responsibility.
