NJ Transit seeking Wi-Fi proposals

On Wednesday, New Jersey Transit (NJ Transit) announced that it is seeking a provider of wireless broadband (Wi-Fi) Internet service at rail stations and onboard trains and has issued a request for proposals (RFP) from qualified firms.

A Wi-Fi network across the NJ Transit rail system would allow access to most Internet applications, including Web browsing, e-mail access, Virtual Private Network (VPN) applications, file uploads and downloads, and video and audio streaming.

The selected firm(s) will be responsible for the design and architecture of the system to be used, including a list of materials, software, functionality of each module and all connections between system components as well as an implementation schedule.

NJ Transit is encouraging all interested firms to attend a pre-proposal conference on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. at the NJ Transit Headquarters building in Newark.

The RFP is due by 4 p.m. on September 30. For more information, interested firms may contact the NJ Transit Bid Desk at (973) 491-7546, or visit njtransit.com and click on “Doing Business.”

NJ Transit anticipates awarding a contract by the end of the year at no cost to the agency.
