TLPA encourages members to go pink for breast cancer awareness

Through "Pink Ride," TLPA members can raise awareness by painting all or a portion of one or more fleet vehicles pink, or by affixing the official pink ribbon decal with the TLPA logo and the words "Pink Ride" next to it.

With members in almost every state as well as internationally, the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) is harnessing the power of its membership during October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month to drive awareness of the disease that will affect one in eight women in their lifetime. Each member company participating in "Pink Ride" will choose how best to designate a vehicle as "pink" and, during the month of October, will donate funds to a breast cancer organization of its own choice.

The new program is designed to have a national collective impact, while ensuring that donated funds benefit TLPA members' local areas of operations. Members, therefore, have the option of naming their own local organizations — such as breast cancer treatment centers or hospitals — or making donations to the American Cancer Society, which will ensure the funds are returned to local chapters in those members' areas of operation.

"Our members are taking the breast cancer fight to the street, literally. This campaign is as much about visibility — reminding people in October that fighting breast cancer requires as many of us as possible to get involved — as it is about raising funds for breast cancer organizations, such as the American Cancer Society, who do so much for us to get closer to finding a cure," said Alfred LaGasse, CEO of TLPA.

Transportation companies in more than half of the U.S. states, as well as operators in Canada, have so far joined the TLPA's "Pink Ride" program. A full list of participating companies and their hometowns is available here.
