First Transit wins N.M., Texas contracts

First Transit Inc. obtained a transit contract with the Red Apple Transit system in Farmington, N.M., to operate 11 transit vehicles, transporting more than 125,000 passengers annually throughout the community.

Red Apple Transit provides fixed-route, paratransit and dial-a-ride services to the citizens of Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield and Kirtland.

The new contract, which began Jan. 3, 2011, is for one year with three one-year options.

First Transit also announced that it recently renewed a transit contract with Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Cap Metro) in Austin, Texas.

Since 2004, First Transit has provided fixed route and university shuttle service for Austin residents and University of Texas students. First Transit operates 107 area transit buses, transporting more than eight million passengers annually.

The new contract took effect Jan. 4, 2011, and extends the relationship between Cap Metro and First Transit for five years.

First Transit provides complete operations and transit management services as well as comprehensive preventative maintenance and inspection programs to meet customer transportation and budgetary needs for Cap Metro.
