SEPTA to spend $100M on positive train control

PHILADELPHIA — The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) plans to spend $100 million on a new, federally mandated train-control system designed to prevent collisions, philly.com reported. SEPTA awarded a contract to Ansaldo STS USA Inc., a Pittsburgh-based subsidiary of an Italian signal-manufacturing company.

SEPTA officials told philly.com that the cost would mean canceling or delaying many other transit projects in the Philadelphia region. For the full story, click here.
