MTA's Lhota taps new counselor

New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Chairman/CEO Joseph J. Lhota announced that Stephen J. Morello will join the MTA as counselor to the chairman/CEO.

In his new role, Morello will direct the communications, government relations, and community affairs divisions of the MTA and its agencies.

A veteran of state and city government, Morello has served for the past year as deputy director of communications in the office of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo. His previous government assignments include serving as press secretary to Gov. Mario M. Cuomo and as deputy, and then, press secretary to Gov. Hugh L. Carey, and as director of communications for the NYC Department of Education. Morello also served as deputy commissioner for the NYC Department of Correction.
