Chinese subway project raises questions

NANCHANG, China — Questions have been raised about the viability of Nanchang’s subway network, which is under construction in a sparsely populated area. The Chinese government has approved building or expansion of metro lines in 23 cities in a six month period, reported the Chicago Tribune.

Nanchang’s government said the new subway will meet the needs of a growing population, which it expects to increase 15 percent by 2015. However, critics see the new subway network as an extravagance. To read the full story, click here.
