WASHINGTON — New census data shows that 37.5% of D.C. residents use public transit to get to work, compared to 33.2% in 1999. Montgomery and Arlington counties experienced similar increases, reported The Examiner.
Metro has added eight stations since 2000, bringing greater access to the system. However, the increased use could take a toll on infrastructure, and Metro’s greatest challenge will be maintaining it, according to Nicholas Ramfos, director of alternative commute programs at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
