Utah Transit lands $116M for light rail extension

Will fund the Draper Light Rail Project, a 3.8-mile extension of agency’s current TRAX service. The project includes three new stations with park-and-ride-facilities, and will run parallel to the heavily traveled Interstate 15 corridor and make it easier for suburban residents to commute to jobs in Salt Lake City.

FRA awards rail funds to Chicago, D.C., Georgia

Illinois DOT received more than $177 million for a passenger rail project between Chicago and the Quad Cities. Georgia DOT was awarded $4.1 million to complete plans and an environmental study for a 250-mile passenger rail corridor between Atlanta and Charlotte, N.C., and the D.C. DOT received $2.9 million for potential bridge replacement.

N.Y. MTA holds supplier conference

Representatives from Daimler Buses North America, Motor Coach Industries, New Flyer Industries, Nova Bus, Prevost and the MTA provided the attendees with information on the types of parts, supplies and services needed as part of the bus manufacturing process.

Wash. State riders to benefit from AVL, GPS mapping

When the AVL system is fully integrated, riders will be able to look online to see where buses are located, see if there are delays, and see the exact times for pick-up and delivery to their destinations. New phone applications are also being developed to streamline the information.
