StarMetro (Fla.); Regional Transportation Commission (Nev.); Foothill Transit (Calif.); King County Metro Transit (Wash.) and Fresno Area Express (Calif.), received more than $25M in grants from the FTA to purchase 20 fast-charge battery-electric transit buses and 4 EV charging stations.
The bulk of the Ohio Department of Transportation funds, about $4 million, will be used to preserve existing transit routes and transit jobs in 2011. The remaining approximately $1 million, will fund strategic improvements and enhancements.
The 2010 Chicago Innovation Awards singled out the Chicago Transit Authority’s Web-based program for bringing valuable and timely bus service information to customers. Established in 2002, the Chicago Innovation Awards focus attention on the most significant new products and services introduced in the region.
The funding is part of a $171 million grant provided to Caltrans to improve service along intercity rail lines. More than $13 million was provided for the section between San Onofre in San Clemente and Moorpark in Ventura County and an additional $25 million for the area between the Orange County line and downtown San Diego.
The binding decision calls for contributions from the members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192 to their health and benefit plans, work rule and holiday changes, and will help the district reduce its protected deficit by approximately $38 million over the term of the contract.
