Wash. breaks ground on $46M rail station project

Includes two new platforms; a parking lot with long-term parking for Amtrak patrons; an improved pedestrian underpass and enhanced passenger amenities, creating a modernized train station for Amtrak Cascades, Sound Transit commuter rail, and King County Metro Transit Bus customers.

BART plans for possible shutdown over strike

Workers to vote on whether to give union management the authority it needs to call a strike if its contract expires at the end of the month. The agency is working with regional transportation officials on backup plans if it needs to shut down trains. Both sides expect to reach a deal.

Massachusetts transit unveils $5.2M bus terminal

Includes an enclosed, climate-controlled passenger waiting area, five off-street bus bays to accommodate 14 bus routes that serve approximately 3,500 riders each day, a full-service ticket counter, public restrooms and space for a future coffee shop. The new center replaces a small mobile trailer that had been a temporary fix since 2006.

Mo.-based OATS to switch to fare-based system

The nonprofit transportation and paratransit provider will switch from collecting suggested contributions to implementing a fare system. The provider is making the change so it can balance its fiscal year 2014 budget. Rider contributions make up only 4% of the provider’s revenue.

Metrolink, L.A. Metro break ground on new station

The project will complement the existing Burbank-Bob Hope Airport Metrolink Station on the Ventura County Line and the Regional Intermodal Transportation Center being constructed by the airport to accommodate a bus transfer facility and rental car facilities.

Chicago Transit to conduct rail study

The analysis is being performed in coordination with the Village of Oak Park, which has contributed local funding to analyze livability issues near Blue Line stations in Oak Park and in Chicago, as well as the IDOT studies in the corridor.
